The Woman Behind Riverside Farm

Merry Vollmer

Merry Vollmer

Merry Vollmer began an extraordinary chapter of her life in 2010, when she married Karsten Vollmer at the age of 17. Karsten, the owner of an architectural firm specializing in work for the equestrian community, was a strong supporter of Merry's Olympic ambitions and encouraged her to pursue her dreams. The years that followed brought both a growing family and an impressive athletic career. In 2011, Merry and Karsten welcomed their first child, Otto. A year later, in 2012, their family grew again with the birth of Stefanie. In 2014, they welcomed their third child, Fritz. Otto and Stefanie took after their father, both inheriting his blonde hair and blue eyes, while Fritz more closely resembled his brunette mother.

While raising her young family, Merry continued to pursue her athletic ambitions on the international stage. In 2016, she competed in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, reaching a milestone she had worked toward for years. Four years later, she returned to the Olympic stage at the 2020 Tokyo Games. In 2024, she competed in her third Olympics in Paris.

Throughout those years, Merry worked to balance the demands of elite competition with the responsibilities of motherhood. Long hours of training, international travel, and the pressures of Olympic competition never caused her to lose sight of the importance of her family. Karsten remained an important source of encouragement as she continued pursuing her athletic career.

Tragedy struck in January 2025 when Karsten died in an automobile accident. His death profoundly changed Merry's life. She stepped away from international competition, turning her attention toward her children and drawing the rest of the family close as they grieved together.

In 2026, Merry and her children moved to Riverside Farm, beginning a new chapter of their lives. Away from the international sporting spotlight, Merry found herself navigating a different kind of challenge: rebuilding a life for herself and her children after a shocking loss.

Merry's story is one of ambition, family, perseverance, and resilience. From marrying young and raising three children to competing in three Olympic Games, she built a life that demanded extraordinary dedication. After tragedy brought her athletic career to an unexpected close, she found a new purpose in her family and the fresh start awaiting them at Riverside Farm.
